Eagles-Bears updates: Chicago maintains lead after third quarter filled with momentum swings

PHILADELPHIA — Greetings from the press box at Lincoln Financial Field, where the Philadelphia Eagles and Chicago Bears will meet in an NFC battle on Black Friday.

The Eagles (8-3) are trying to bounce back from their collapse to the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday at AT&T Stadium.

Philadelphia took a step back in the race for the NFC’s No. 1 overall seed with its 24-21 loss to Dallas. The Los Angeles Rams (9-2) now have the best odds to earn the first-round bye and home-field advantage.

The Bears (8-3), meanwhile, are looking legitimize their NFC North-leading record with a win over the defending Super Bowl champions.

FOURTH QUARTER

12:49 – Bears 17, Eagles 9

The Bears’ run game is ruling the day. Kyle Monangai bursts through the middle for 4-yard TD run to extend Chicago’s lead. It was a 12-play, 87-yard drive.

THIRD QUARTER

0:00 – Bears 10, Eagles 9

The momentum is back with Chicago, which has a pair of 100-yard rushers through three quarters. Kyle Monangai (15-112) and D’Andre Swift (13-107) have led Bears to 242 yards on the ground.

4:33 – Bears 10, Eagles 9

Third-and-1 at the CHI 12 and Eagles line up for tush push. Nahshon Wright comes around the edge and snatches the ball from Jalen Hurts’ grasp in the pile and recovers the fumble. Chicago takes over at their own 13.

6:36 – Bears 10, Eagles 9

Jalyx Hunt intercepts a short pass intended for Kyle Monangai at the Chicago 48 and advances it to the 36. A sudden swing of momentum in Philly.

8:05 – Bears 10, Eagles 9

AJ Brown with a beauty, undercuts defender to haul in 33-yard TD pass from Jalen Hurts a play after Hurts ran for 23 yards. A sudden burst from the Eagles offense after looking hapless up to that point. Eagles can’t tie it though after Jake Elliott hooks the extra point wide left.

11:32 – Bears 10, Eagles 3

Former Eagle Kevin Byard III picks off a scrambling Jalen Hurts with a diving grab near the sideline at the CHI 49. The Birds’ offensive woes continue.

HALFTIME: Bears 10, Eagles 3

The boo birds were out at the Linc after that ugly first half. The Eagles were outgained, 222-83, by the Bears and have run only 17 offensive plays to Chicago’s 47. The Bears ran the ball at will (when they wanted to), racking up 142 yards on the ground with 6.5 yards per carry. Jalen Hurts, meanwhile, is 5/10 for 57 yards with a few missed throws. The Birds are lucky to be down only 10-3.

SECOND QUARTER

6:44 — Bears 10, Eagles 3

The Eagles got bailed out by Caleb Williams there. Rome Odunze was wide open in the end zone for a touchdown, but Williams short-armed his throw. The Bears had to settle for a field goal, keeping this a one-score game.

13:04 — Bears 7, Eagles 3

The Eagles had an opportunity to answer but were forced to settle for a Jake Elliott field goal. Jalen Hurts squandered an easy third-and-8 conversion at Chicago’s 26-yard line, missing an open DeVonta Smith.

FIRST QUARTER

1:31 — Bears 7, Eagles 0

Well, that was too easy. The Bears bullied the Eagles up front on that drive, marching on an 11-play, 78-yard touchdown drive powered by the ground game. Seven of the 11 plays were runs to either Kyle Monangai or D’Andre Swift, who finished things off with a three-yard TD run. Chicago already has 84 rushing yards on 13 attempts.

9:34 — Eagles 0, Bears 0

The Eagles’ defense has started strong. Chicago, after stringing together a drive down to Philadelphia’s 25-yard line, was stalled on a massive fourth-down stop by Byron Young and the defensive front. Kyle Monangai was originally ruled to have moved the chains. But an easy challenge by Nick Sirianni overturned the call.
