Ole Miss secured history with its 11th win of the season by dominating rival Mississippi State in the Egg Bowl, 38-19.

It’s now all but finalized Ole Miss (11-1, 7-1 SEC) will have a berth in the College Football Playoff and very likely to have home field advantage in the first round. There are still games left to be played to decide who will play in the SEC Championship, but the Rebels need Alabama and Texas A&M to lose, which is a bit of long odds.
AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementFriday’s win over its in-state rival was punishing with 545 yards offensively with a huge day from Trinidad Chambliss. The “Island Time” QB passed for 359 yards and four touchdowns on the day including two to De’Zhaun Stribling who seemingly turned into AJ Brown overnight.
MSU (5-7, 1-7 SEC) ends the year with another loss after starting the year 4-0. Second year coach Jeff Lebby has clearly gotten this team in better shape, and freshman QB Kemario Taylor played well at times in his first SEC start. However, Ole Miss is just better in almost every facet of the game.
The Rebels bookended the game with 14 points in the first and fourth quarter each, but its third touchdown of the game came with 12 seconds left in the first half to Stribling to give Ole Miss a 21-10 halftime lead. From there, it seemed almost mathematic that Lane Kiffin and the Rebels would pull this one off.
Now, there’s the waiting.

But right now, holy shit it is great to be a Rebel.
From the duldroms of Coach O to 2-10 with Houston Nutt to the NCAA purgatory of Hugh Freeze’s tenure, Rebel fans have seen a lot in the last 20 or more years. This team finally did what others couldn’t and will be among potentially the top 5 in the country when its all said and done. A home playoff game should be awarded to Ole Miss, and the atmosphere will be unmatched.
Hotty damn Toddy! Go to hell State! Bring on the playoffs, cheers!
