The New York Giants had the Detroit Lions on the ropes in the fourth quarter, but couldn't contain star running back Jahmyr Gibbs, who ripped off touchdown runs of 49 and 69 yards in the fourth quarter and overtime as the Lions escaped with a 34-27 win.
"We are desperate for a win," quarterback Jameis Winston said after throwing a pair of touchdowns and catching another. "That is one of the things ... everyone in the locker room [was saying], let's be desperate for a victory. This is one of the best teams in the NFL. We came here on a mission, and we didn't complete that mission. We have to find a way. And whatever it takes, we're willing and able to do it."
After the sixth-straight loss, the Giants opted to make another coaching change.

The team initially fired Brian Daboll after a 2-8 start to the season. Just two games - and two losses - later, interim head coach Mike Kafka made the decision to fire defensive coordinator Shane Bowen after the Giants gave up 34 points and nearly 500 yards of offense.

Sunday's loss to the Lions was the fifth time this season the Giants have suffered defeat after holding a double-digit lead in the fourth quarter. New York sits dead last in the league in total yards allowed this season while ranking third-worst in points per game allowed with 27.8.
Outside linebackers coach Charlie Bullen will take over as interim defensive coordinator.
