Warning: SPOILERS ahead for Sisu: Road to Revenge!Stephen Lang's explosive ending in Sisu: Road to Revenge has been unpacked by director Jalmari Helander, who explains the wild moment. Lang portrays Igor Draganov, a Soviet officer who killed Aatami's (Jorma Tommila) family, serving as the sequel's central antagonist. Sisu: Road to Revenge ends with Igor getting blown up by a ballistic missile on a train that Aatami activates.

In an interview with ScreenRant's Grant Hermanns for the second installment, Helander explained the reason behind Lang's Igor getting blown up with a missile in Sisu: Road to Revenge. The director stated his death was the first idea thought of for the train scene, making it inevitable that he'd be killed in such a manner. Check out what Helander had to say below:

ScreenRant: Speaking of Igor's death, I was gleefully surprised by the sheer brutality of it with the combination of the warhead impaling him and blowing him up. How many iterations of a legendary death did you give him when crafting the script?

Jalmari Helander: I always knew he would die with the missile because that was the first idea with the train. I thought how cool it would be to ride on train moving with the rocket engine of a big missile. So, when I had that, I knew the missile would be the seat of him.

The train sequence was the biggest element of Sisu: Road to Revenge's ending, with Aatami originally using the missile as a booster to catch up to a fleeing Igor. The pair fight, with Lang's character almost besting the protagonist. Luckily, the missile is still armed, killing Igor and allowing Aatami to go back to Finland, his revenge satisfied.

Reviews for Sisu: Road to Revenge have emphasized the major amount of violence in the sequel. This includes a number of creative death scenes for numerous characters, mostly cannon fodder as Aatami attempts to get to Igor. The antagonist, however, had the most ferocious death of all, befitting a high-octane, climactic finale for the action film.

Sisu: Road to Revenge holds a 96% rating on Rotten Tomatoes from critics as of writing. The readily-available praise for the film's action scenes is what makes it stand out among others in the genre. As Helander states, the missile death was the foundational idea for the train scene, further emphasizing how the movie's action is its central element.

The grounded action film won't be the only villain role Lang has in movies this year: The actor will be returning as Colonel Miles Quaritch in the cast of Avatar: Fire and Ash. However, his Igor remains memorable not only because of how he played off of Tommila's Aatami, but also because of his wild death scene.

Given how memorable Sisu: Road to Revenge made its major villain death, it's clear Helander and the team behind the movie have a knack for crafting brutal yet satisfying death scenes. It makes the action sequel stand out in the market, while also delivering on a fitting conclusion for the second chapter of Aatami's story.
