By Melissa Fleur AfsharShareNewsweek is a Trust Project memberA viral post on Threads has lit up the Stranger Things fandom, revealing a hidden detail in Season 5 that many may have missed—until they picked up the phone.
On November 27, Threads user @terabear14 posted a still image from the first episode of Stranger Things Season 5, showing a missing poster for Jane Hopper (Millie Bobby Brown)—better known as Eleven—pinned to a hallway wall at Hawkins High School.
“ATTENTION STRANGER THINGS FANS! Call the phone number on El’s wanted poster. You’re welcome,” the post read.
The image, which quickly gained over 4,600 likes, delighted fans for more than its nostalgic set dressing. The poster, a prop in the show, lists a real Indiana area code—765—and includes a working phone number. When dialed, callers are met with a chilling in-world voicemail message from the fictional Hawkins Police Department.
The interactive detail has prompted a flurry of fan activity across platforms, with some sharing the audio experience for those unable to call.

One viewer, @ashluvsfiberart, filled callers in on what they would hear: “Thank you for contacting the Hawkins Police Department. Due to the recent 7.4 magnitude earthquake, Hawkins is currently under lockdown to ensure the safety of our residents. The Hawkins emergency task force is working closely with the Hawkins police department to locate missing persons, of which Jane Hopper is a priority. We urge you as a responsible member of Hawkins to help us locate her.”
The crackly '80s line then disconnects, leaving a lingering sense of urgency.
The moment is tied to the events of Season 4, which ended with catastrophic damage to Hawkins and left Eleven missing. The show’s creators, the Duffer Brothers, appear to have embedded this audio Easter egg as an immersive extension of the storyline—a strategy warmly embraced by fans.
“I called! That was sooo cool!” one commenter replied on the post. Another added, “The fact that 765 is an ACTUAL Indiana area code is great.”
The fan consensus was clear: the attention to detail was more than just clever—it deepened their connection to the story world.
“I love when film and TV go that extra mile to immerse us,” another said.
The activation has also spread to TikTok, where users like @albertlikesmovies documented their reactions after calling the number. This creator's post shows the audio playing out live, capturing their genuine excitement.
...Other creators have begun stitching their own versions of the call, amplifying the reach of the Easter egg and keeping Stranger Things top of mind as fans await more from the final season.
