The wait for GTA 6 isn't going to be an easy one by any means. Fortunately, the beloved Grand Theft Auto 4 just got a hugely impressive visual overhaul that should keep us busy for a little bit and take our minds off the year-long wait ahead.
While there's no guarantee GTA 6 won't be delayed again, we can't think about that right now. So put it out of your head and take a look at this gorgeous mod that breathes new life into GTA 4.
GTA 4 Has Never Looked So Good
Back to Liberty City

While there are plenty of mods out there designed to make GTA 4 feel all shiny and new again, this Path Tracing RTX Remix Mod from modder xoxor4d is one of the best I've seen yet. It adds real-time path tracing to fan-favourite 2008 game, making Liberty City more immersive than ever before.
Better yet, this new mod is compatible with the open-source Fusion Fix Mod, which exists as a way to address all the technical issues that, for whatever reason, weren't addressed in any official GTA 4 updates. The upshot is that only PC gamers will be able to play around with this new graphics mod. Sorry about that.
It's also worth noting that path tracing is typically very heavy on performance, so you might want to consider whether or not your PC is up to this particular challenge.
YouTube channel MxBenchmarkPC notes that NVIDIA's pricey GeForce RTX 5080 still wasn't quite powerful enough to run this mod at a stable 60fps without the aid of DLSS Frame Generation.
You Can Install The Mod Now
It seems easy enough
If you're confident in your PC and are keen on downloading the Path Tracing RTX Remix Mod for GTA 4 yourself, it's easy enough. Modder xoxor4d outlined the steps over on github, where you can also check out various troubleshooting tips.
- Download GTAIV-Remix-CompatibilityMod-1.0.0.zip
- Download GTAIV-Remix-CompMod-Installer.exe
- Place both files in the same folder and run GTAIV-Remix-CompMod-Installer.exe
- Use the File Dialog to select your GTAIV.exe which is located in your GTAIV install folder
- The installer will ask if you want to install a custom Fork of FusionFix If you already have FusionFix installed, it's definitely recommended to install this because the original, unmodified version has a few incompatibilities with RTX Remix. If you do not have FusionFix installed, you are free to choose. It's not a requirement.
- Make sure that you remove all custom launch arguments for GTA 4 in Steam (if you have any set)
There you have it! If you're looking for a reason to head back into GTA 4 and make the wait for GTA 6 a little more bearable, this is definitely your best bet.
