Despite the forward overseeing a stellar run of form since making the move, Barcelona are undecided on whether they will keep Marcus Rashford beyond the current season.

The Manchester United star joined the club on loan in July after falling entirely out of favour under Ruben Amorim.

There was no buy obligation included in the terms, but United did include a £26 million buy option in case the Catalan giants wanted to take him off their hands.

It’s safe to say Rashford has hit the ground running in a Barcelona shirt, having had an immediate impact on Hansi Flick’s side as they look to retain their title and, in an ideal world, reign victorious in the Champions League.

In Europe, he’s returned a hugely impressive four goals and two assists in five appearances, while domestically, the 28-year-old has scored twice and assisted a further seven goals in 12 matches.

His showings led fans of both Barcelona and United to assume his buy option would be activated. However, a new report from The Athletic today has thrown a spanner in the works.

Spanish expert Pol Ballus revealed that the Blaugrana are actually undecided on Rashford’s future, and they have given no indication that they plan to keep him over the summer.

It’s thought that the fact he turns 29 next year could be deterring the board from making him a long-term contract offer – one that would take him well into his 30s by the time it expires.

Rashford’s precarious relationship with Amorim means he’s unlikely to have the opportunity to revive his Red Devils career, so he may have to consider alternative options.
