Former Premier League striker Cameron Jerome has come out of retirement to play for 12th-tier side Newsome in the Yorkshire Amateur League Premier Division.

The 39-year-old, who played in the top flight for Birmingham City, Stoke City, Norwich City and Crystal Palace, last made a competitive appearance in the League One play-off final for Bolton Wanderers in May 2024.

He scored 33 goals in 211 Premier League appearances between 2007 and 2015 and also played in the Championship for Cardiff City, Derby County and Luton Town.

Newsome, based in Huddersfield where Jerome was born, are bottom of their league with seven points from seven games.

In an announcement on X, the club said: "Power, pace, huge experience. An absolute prodigious addition to the squad. Welcome home, Cameron."
