Ireland’s largest estate agency, Sherry FitzGerald, has secured regulatory approval to acquire Knight Frank’s Irish business, marking a significant development in the country’s property sector.

The Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (CCPC) approved the transaction, concluding that it would not substantially reduce competition in the market. A detailed determination is expected to be published in due course.

Sherry FitzGerald operates 105 offices nationwide, including 31 company-owned branches, and accounts for roughly 15% of Ireland’s residential property market. The group also owns the Simon Brien agency in Northern Ireland.

Knight Frank’s Irish operations, which trade as HT Meagher O’Reilly Ltd and HT Meagher O’Reilly New Homes Ltd, are headquartered in Dublin and offer services spanning residential and commercial sales, lettings, valuations and investment advisory.

It will continue to trade under the Knight Frank name.

The transaction was notified to the CCPC on 23 October 2025 and received clearance at the end of a Phase 1 review.

The acquisition signals Sherry FitzGerald’s return to the commercial property sector, which it exited in 2018 after selling its remaining 80% stake in its commercial arm to Cushman & Wakefield.
