This article discusses sexual assault and self harm.

Warning! This article contains SPOILERS for The Pitt season 2, episode 7.As The Pitt approaches the midpoint of season 2, Dr. Jack Abbot's (Shawn Hatosy) arrival at Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Center has shaken things up. Dr. Abbot is one of the most beloved characters in The Pitt, and his arrival in season 2 has been long awaited by many fans. Since he normally works the night shift, it wasn't guaranteed that he'd be part of this season's shift, but this week's episode brought him back.

Abbot's return to PTMC also couldn't have come at a better time, as the emergency room is about to experience a unique new challenge: a complete switch to analog. This week's episode revealed the reason for Westbridge's code black from The Pitt season 2, episode 3, made some shocking revelations about Dr. Santos (Isa Briones), and introduced another emotionally heavy patient to the show, and all of it is worth recapping.

Westbridge Was Targeted By A Cyberattack & PTMC Is Shutting Down Its Digital Systems

The Pitt season 2, episode 7 revealed that Westbridge had a code black and sent its patients to PTMC because they were the target of a cyberattack. PTMC's CEO explained that hackers had taken down Westbridge's computer systems and were demanding a ransom to bring them back online. That kind of cyberattack is fairly common in the real world. In fact, a real-life hospital in Jackson, Mississippi was targeted by a cyberattack earlier today (via WLBT).

PTMC is also under threat of being targeted by the same hackers Westbridge was, so the hospital's CEO announced that they'd be shutting down every computer in the hospital to protect themselves. That means PTMC won't have access to digital patient files, schedules, the patient board, charting software, and even the phones. As Dr. Robby (Noah Wyle) said, they're going analog.

This is going to be a huge problem for PTMC. The emergency room was already backed up before going analog, and now that there aren't any digital systems to help them move patients and keep track of everything, even mundane tasks are going to take longer and require more effort. It's even possible that some patients could go forgotten entirely, such as Harlow, the woman who keeps getting ignored.

Dr. Al-Hashimi (Sepideh Moafi) also made a big mistake during the analog reveal. She was called up to discuss the shutdown with the CEO earlier in the episode, and she neglected to tell Robby about it ahead of time. If she had, Robby could have prepared the emergency room a bit more instead of scrambling to take a picture of the board. It also drove yet another wedge between her and Robby's already tense professional relationship.

Dr. Abbot's Return To The Hospital Explained

The Pitt season 2, episode 7 also found an inventive way to bring Dr. Abbot back to the hospital. As previously mentioned, Abbot usually works the night shift at PTMC. However, we learned that he also works as a medic for the Pittsburgh SWAT team, and he came into the hospital while helping an officer who had been shot, Hiro. Abbot intubated Hiro in the field, and he stayed after he was stabilized.

Abbot was also hit during the raid, though his bulletproof vest kept him mostly safe. That injury led to an intimate moment between him and Dr. Mohan (Supriya Ganesh), where she helped him treat a small wound on his back. Abbot also offered to get an Uber to deliver some diabetes supplies to Oscar, Mohan's patient who left the hospital to avoid paying medical bills.

Abbot's arrival at the hospital wasn't ordinary, but it should be the perfect excuse for him to stick around for the rest of the season. Now that PTMC is going analog and getting overflow patients from other hospitals, Abbot will almost certainly stick around to help out. He is an adrenaline junkie, as evidenced by his job as a SWAT medic, and the chaos that's sure to come is definitely enough to get him to clock in early.

Dana Was Deeply Affected By A Sexual Assault Patient

The most harrowingly realistic patient in The Pitt season 2, episode 7 was Ilana, a young woman who came in to be examined after she was sexually assaulted. Dana (Katherine LaNasa), as a Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner, handled the examination. Dana's previous SANE training let her collect evidence of the assault, like hair, saliva, and semen, from the rapist in a meticulous fashion. She also took photos of Ilana's bruises, and she was going to perform a vaginal examination.

Before she could do the vaginal examination, however, Ilana decided to end the examination early. She was likely being overwhelmed by another person looking at her genitals so shortly after she was sexually assaulted. Ilana also began to justify her attackers actions, saying that he was a friend and that it was a drunken mistake. At present, it's not clear if Ilana is going to decide to finish the examination or not.

Dana also seemed deeply affected by Ilana's decision not to go through with the examination, even holding back tears. Sexual assault is an understandably uncomfortable and tragic event for anyone to experience, even a nurse like Dana who is only doing the examination. Despite what Dana shows the world, she's a woman who has a lot of empathy for her patients, and she was likely deeply upset about the trauma Ilana was going through.

Why Dr. McKay's Patient Doesn't Want To Leave The Hospital

Dr. McKay's (Fiona Dourif) cancer patient, Roxie, also had a development this week. After failing to get out of bed at the end of The Pitt season 2, episode 6, Roxie decided she wanted to stay at the hospital. This week, her husband questioned the decision and tried to get Robby to force her to go home. Based on how supportive he is and how busy PTMC is about to get, it was a bit confusing that Roxie didn't want to go home.

Roxie didn't outright explain why she wanted to stay in the hospital, but there are a few inferences we can make. Firstly, Roxie is in a lot of pain, and she is probably scared of how much transferring into the ambulance and back into her house is going to hurt. Secondly, it seems Roxie doesn't want to die at her home. She told her husband that she doesn't want Paul living with her "ghost," and she probably doesn't want to give her family memories of the end of her life associated with the place they live.

Dr. Santos Was A Main Focus Of The Pitt Season 2, Episode 7

Dr. Santos got a lot of focus in The Pitt season 2, episode 7, and there were a few big moments that are worth discussing. Santos started out the episode by struggling to treat Harlow, as the virtual sign language interpreter's connection cut out. She's also actively trying to catch up with her charting after her troubles with the AI charting app. While doing that, Santos also got a chance to sing a Tagalog lullaby to Baby Jane Doe when she was crying.

The biggest shock reveal about Santos was also fairly easy to miss. At the end of the episode, Santos was in the bathroom when Javadi entered. As she put her pants back up, The Pitt briefly revealed what appeared to be self-harm scars on Santos' thighs. The scars were healed, but it seems Santos has struggled with her mental health and possibly depression in the past, possibly due to the childhood sexual assault she implied she survived in season 1.

This week also brought a big development in Dr. Langdon (Patrick Ball) and Robby's strained relationship. While preparing to bring in a medevac patient on the roof, Langdon finally apologized to Robby for betraying his trust and the trust of his patients because of his drug addiction. Robby, however, told Langdon that he was happy he had gotten treatment, but he wasn't sure if he wanted him to be a doctor in his emergency room anymore.

Robby's words clearly got to Langdon, as he was flustered for several minutes after while treating the propeller victim. Robby also looked very frustrated with Langdon as they treated the patient. Based on that entire exchange, it's clear that Robby and Langdon aren't going to be ending this spat any time soon. Something big is going to have to change by the end of The Pitt season 2 for Robby to fully forgive Langdon, if he does at all.
