In the last nearly two months since its arrival, Apple TV’s The Last Frontier has proven to be a hit with audiences. Considering its fun blend of mystery with crime drama (in a mix that feels like Yellowstone meets True Detective), it’s not incredibly shocking that the Jason Clarke-led series has enjoyed numerous weeks atop the streamer’s global Top 10 chart. But, now, it seems like things have cooled down for The Last Frontier, as, according to FlixPatrol, it’s officially fallen from the number one spot, with Vince Gilligan’s (Breaking Bad) return to television in Pluribus, claiming its crown. Both shows continue to put on a good fight alongside other hit contenders like The Morning Show and Slow Horses, both of which have recently returned for brand-new seasons but haven’t drummed up the type of viewership numbers that would give them an in to the top spot.
The fate of The Last Frontier remains up in the air, as its home network hasn’t made moves on a renewal quite yet. With the Season 1 finale just days away on December 5, the clock is ticking for audiences to discover if there will be more of the story to come or if the tale of Frank Remnick (Clarke) and the rest of the cast of characters will wrap with the season finale. With so many subplots popping out of the woodwork, we’d be surprised if the creative team fully puts all the cards on the table and gives us the answers we seek in the finale, so fingers are fully crossed for greenlight on Season 2.
Transporting audiences to the icy cold tundra of Fairbanks, the first season of The Last Frontier follows follows Clarke’s Frank Remnick, a U.S. Marshal stationed in the Alaskan town who quickly finds his hands full after a plane carrying some of the country’s most dangerous inmates crashes just beyond the border. With convicts on the run, Frank snaps into action to collect the fugitives as quickly as possible, but one of the survivors — Dominic Cooper’s Havlock — turns out to be incredibly important to the CIA. When an agent from the federal organization arrives on the scene to assist in the mission, secrets are revealed, and tensions are cranked to 100 as Frank tries to hold himself — and his town — together.
Who Stars in ‘The Last Frontier’?
In addition to the cat-and-mouse game going on between Clarke and Cooper’s characters, the layered characters in The Last Frontier are played by a talented ensemble that includes Simone Kessell (Yellowjackets), Alfre Woodard (Annabelle), Dallas Goldtooth (Fallout), Haley Bennett (The Girl on the Train), and Tait Blum (For All Mankind). The series hails from Jon Bokenkamp, who made waves for a whopping 10 seasons as the creator behind the beloved NBC crime thriller, The Blacklist.
The Last Frontier is now streaming on Apple TV.
