Belle Dingle (Eden Taylor-Draper) grew concerned about April Windsor (Amelia Flanagan) in tonight’s episode of Emmerdale, as she noticed the youngster was very distracted.

April has endured a number of traumatic ordeals this year after being lured into a world that’s seen her deal drugs and sold to older men for sex.

During one of these meetings, April defended herself from a creep called Callum by hitting him over the head with a bottle. Callum collapsed onto his bed after, and April then noticed blood pouring from his head.

Under the impression she had just killed someone, April told Ray Walters (Joe Absolom) and Celia Daniels (Jaye Griffiths), who then dealt with the situation to prevent April from facing trouble with the police. What the duo haven’t told her though, is that Callum is actually alive.

As a result, April is dealing with an overwhelming amount of guilt over supposedly leaving Callum’s child without their dad. Yesterday, in an attempt to decrease some of the negative feelings she was experiencing, she posted a card through Callum’s door with a wad of cash inside.

April dashed off, failing to spot Callum arriving at the doorstep.

The man then called Ray, who found April a while later and basically explained that he didn’t care about how she was feeling. He told her to lock the guilt away, because doing that will prevent her from going to prison for murder.

April’s trauma is now becoming very difficult for her to hide. On a few occasions in tonight’s episode, April’s mask slipped while she was alone, and she had no idea that Belle was watching her.

As someone who was previously in an abusive relationship, Belle saw April’s distant behaviour as a sign that something similar was happening to her.

In The Hide, she cornered April and asked if they could have a chat. They went back to Wishing Well, where Belle wondered if she was hiding something about Dylan.

April reassured Belle and said there was nothing wrong with her relationship with Dylan. She claimed that she was just feeling a bit down, and didn’t want to show this on Dylan’s birthday.

Belle was close, but not close enough. Distracted by work, Belle had to get going, unaware that April is indeed being controlled, but not by her boyfriend.

April remains unaware at the moment that Dylan has made a huge discovery up on Celia’s farm.

He has found Bear Wolf (Joshua Richards) working alongside other slaves and if he tries to do something about his discovery, this could ultimately lead April to the moment where she tells Marlon Dingle (Mark Charnock) about what she’s been going through.
