Ryan Yarbrough could play a role in the Yankees' plans early on, but there are still free agents available who can help the Yankees. The Yankees may not want to spend on a frontline starter, already having Cole, Max Fried, Carlos Rodón, Cam Schlittler and Luis Gil. However, NorthJersey.com's Pete Caldera predicted the Yankees would sign Justin Verlander.
Verlander is a future Hall of Famer and is nearing the end of the line. The 42-year-old still has some innings left in the tank and can still be a solid addition to any staff. Last season, he made 29 starts and posted a 2.85 ERA. He may not be the same pitcher he once was, but he can still be a solid option.
...Verlander is a nine-time All-Star, former MVP, three-time Cy Young Award winner, two-time World Series champion, two-time ERA champion and Triple Crown winner. He has been in the big leagues since 2005, spending most of his career with the Detroit Tigers and Houston Astros.
The Yankees could use an arm like Verlander's early in the year. He is an experienced veteran with over 3,500 innings of work. He has also played in 38 postseason games. He could be a leader for the Yankees as they look to win the World Series.
