The spirit of the wild West is fully alive in Collider's exclusive fresh look at Well Go USA Entertainment’s upcoming film, Frontier Crucible. Set for a cinematic and digital release on December 5, audiences are just a few days away from setting course for adventure alongside a cast led by Myles Clohessy (Over the Red River), who stars as a cowboy tasked with a mission that could save countless lives. Helmed by Travis Mills (Heart of the Gun), the latest film to come from the producer-turned-director is based on Harry Whittington’s novel, Desert Stake-Out, and has all the makings of your newest Western obsession.
With the epic landscape of Monument Valley behind them, Clohessy and William H. Macy’s characters share a few words with one another. It’s a gorgeous day in the desert, as the pair chat about the unseen dangers that surround them in the Apache warriors who watch from the shadows. But what Macy’s decorated military man is really here to talk about is the virus that’s broken out down south. Laying out the predicament, he explains that, although there may be plenty of doctors and other helping hands, what the sick folks really need is medicine and supplies — which is where Clohessy’s character, Merrick Beckford, comes in. With no other way to get the medical wagon through dangerous territory, Macy’s character says that Clohessy’s gun-wielding cowboy is the town’s last hope at survival.
Our exclusive sneak peek gives a good layout of not only the storyline behind Frontier Crucible, but also perfectly introduces the stakes. We know that Merrick will take Macy’s character up on his request and see to it himself that the wagon filled with supplies makes it to the deathly ill people in need. But Merrick won’t be able to do it alone. For assistance, he enlists a trio of ruthless outlaws who all have their own self-preservation in mind as the crew travels through hostile territory that gets all the more unwelcoming after they accidentally kill an Apache scout.
Who Else Stars in ‘Frontier Crucible’?
In addition to Clohessy and Macy, the rest of the ensemble leading the charge behind Frontier Crucible includes Mary Stickley (Harvest), Joshua Odjick (It: Welcome to Derry), Eli Brown (Pretty Little Liars: The Perfectionists), Ryan Masson (The Last Stop in Yuma County), Thomas Jane (Deep Blue Sea), Zane Holtz (From Dusk till Dawn: The Series) and Armie Hammer (Call Me by Your Name).
Check out our exclusive first look at Frontier Crucible above and see it in cinemas and on digital December 5, but you can pre-order the film right now.
