While fans have been demanding that Daniel Craig's Southern-fried sleuth, Benoit Blanc, cross over with The Muppets since the 2019 release of Knives Out, Netflix may have just given them the next best thing. Beignet Blanc, Benoit's puppet counterpart, has a mystery to solve on Sesame Street in a new clip just released by the streamer, which now hosts both the long-running educational children's show, and the next Benoit Blanc mystery, Wake Up Dead Man.

In "Forks Out," Cookie Monster is preparing to dig into a triple berry pie, only to discover an empty plate. (Oscar the Grouch's sardine pie, tragically, remains untouched.) This calls for the world's greatest detective...who, much to his dismay, is not Sesame Street's Grover, but the eerily human-like Beignet Blanc, who may be Daniel Craig or a remarkable simulation. The gluttonous Cookie Monster is clearly the first suspect, but the neatness of the crime would seem to eliminate the blue-furred gourmand. As Grover remains several steps behind, Blanc runs through a litany of other suspects, including Oscar the Grouch and Rian Johnson, only to come to the conclusion that the mystery has an entirely innocent solution that may bring to mind a more pastry-based Murder on the Orient Express.

Who Is Benoit Blanc?

A famed private detective, Blanc first appeared in Knives Out, when he was summoned to investigate the murder of bestselling mystery novelist Harlan Thrombey (Christopher Plummer) at his New England mansion. While suspicion initially fell on his squabbling family, and then his nurse Marta (Ana de Armas), Blanc soon sussed out the true killer. Next, he found himself on the guest list to the private Greek island of tech billionaire Miles Bron (Edward Norton) in Glass Onion, only to witness the murder of Bron's ex-business partner Andi Brand (Janelle Monáe); however, all is not as it seems, as Blanc himself was the mastermind behind a cunning ruse. Glass Onion also gave the audience a brief glimpse into Blanc's personal life, which he shares with partner Phillip (Hugh Grant). Now, in Wake Up Dead Man, Blanc is confronted with the murder of a priest, Monsignor Jefferson Wicks (Josh Brolin), during a Good Friday service. Is his new subordinate (Josh O'Connor), who bears a grudge against Wicks' family, to blame? Or is there more to the mystery? (Spoiler: there is.) To find out, you'll have to see Wake Up Dead Man in select theaters now, or when it streams on Netflix on December 12.

Netflix emerged as a savior for Sesame Street earlier this year. The long-running series had previously had a deal with HBO Max which saw new episodes aired on the streamer before making their way to PBS; however, with the expiration of that deal, the show was in danger of shutting down.

Wake Up Dead Man is playing in select theaters now; it will be released on Netflix on December 12. Stay tuned to Collider for future updates.
