The Big Bang Theory franchise thrives in the 2025-2026 TV cycle as Montana Jordan and Emily Osment's show keeps the universe alive. While Sheldon's childhood in Texas ended when he moved to California, his mother and siblings' story continues in his hometown.
Now in its sophomore year, Georgie & Mandy's First Marriage has already brought back every single member of the Cooper family, even George, for a cameo, except for Sheldon. There have been references to Armitage's character, occasional updates about how he's keeping in touch, but for the most part, he doesn't factor in what's going on back at home.
Amid that, Armitage is bringing back Young Sheldon for a new project that aims to support STEM in partnership with Donors Choose. Looking very different from Sheldon's signature Texas look, the actor, who looks very different from the last time he played Sheldon, campaigns for donations that would help fund STEM learning, and whatever amount people raise, Young Sheldon is going to double that. It has been a year and a half since Young Sheldon ended with a shortened season 7, which is also the same amount of time since Armitage last played the legendary character first popularized by Jim Parsons. Despite the clamor to see him again in Georgie & Mandy's First Marriage, there are a couple of reasons why CBS hasn't brought him back. While they are bummers, it's also easy to understand why the writers have decided to delay Sheldon's appearance.
Firstly, the spinoff sequel is still establishing its own identity separate from its predecessor. Secondly, since Sheldon now lives in California, he can't just easily pop in like Mary and Missy. Georgie & Mandy's First Marriage season 2's Christmas episode is the perfect opportunity to feature him, but it's effectively confirmed that Sheldon won't be coming home for the holidays — at least this year. This means that the wait for Armitage to reprise the role continues well into 2026.
Armitage's new project with Young Sheldon does confirm, however, that despite doing other things now, he is still very much eager to slip back into the shoes of Sheldon for a good cause. This means that if Chuck Lorre or anyone from Georgie & Mandy's First Marriage calls for him to return, chances are that he will be more than willing to do that — assuming that his schedule permits the filming days.
