Real Madrid’s title hopes were dealt a blow this past weekend when the Spanish giants were held to a 1-1 draw with Girona.
As many fans would have predicted, the game was once again dominated by refereing controversies. So quite naturally, tempers flared.

As he was about close the ball, the Brazilian had contact from Girona’s Joel Roca. To the naked eye of many, it appeared to be a foul – a clip on the leg sufficient to bring the forward down.
However, referee Ricardo de Burgos Bengoetxea waved play on, deeming the contact insufficient for a penalty. The VAR room did not intervene to overturn the on-field decision.
What Rodrygo told the referee
Movistar+ has recently shared clips of the Rodrygo incident and his subsequent outburst against the referee de Burgos.
The Brazilian’s frustration boiled over at the final whistle. He approached De Burgos Bengoetxea directly on the pitch and, with visible vehemence, shouted a question.

The denied of a possible penalty came at a wrong time for Rodrygo, who has now gone on a 30-match streak without a single goal in the back of the net.
This has even led to speculation about his future, with Real Madrid reportedly prepared to consider offers for the Brazilian international.
For Real Madrid, too, things are not looking too well. The draw leaves Los Blancos a point behind Barcelona as Los Blancos gear up for their next league game against Athletic Club.
