Dec. 2 (UPI) -- Isago Silva, the son of Brazilian soccer legend Thiago Silva, signed his first professional contract with Chelsea, the Premier League power announced.

The Blues announced the 17-year-old defender's promotion Monday. Silva made his Under-18 team debut during his 2024-25 campaign with the Under-16 team. He also appeared in three matches with the Under-17 squad this season.

"In that time, he has developed into a versatile and reliable defender, comfortable operating at both left back and center back," the Blues said in a statement.

Isago has yet to debut for the Blues' senior team, but could participate in upcoming matches, including Champions League competitions. He was among 33 academy players the Blues previously registered to be called up for any of their remaining Champions League group stage matches.

"Proud to sign my first pro deal with Chelsea," Isago wrote on Instagram.

Isago's 41-year-old dad spent the 2024 campaign with Fluminense. He played for the Blues from 2020 to 2024. He also made 113 appearances for the Brazilian men's national team.
