Arne Slot says Liverpool players Alexander Isak, Florian Wirtz and Joe Gomez are unable to play three full games in a row at the moment.

Isak only recently recovered from an injury that sidelined him for five matches, Wirtz returned this past weekend from an issue he picked up on international duty, while Gomez has seldom featured due to his history of injury problems.

The trio all started in Sunday’s much needed 2-0 win at West Ham United, with Isak scoring his first Premier League goal since joining the club from Newcastle United on deadline day. Gomez provided an assist for Cody Gakpo while filling in at right-back.

Speaking ahead of Wednesday’s clash with Sunderland at Anfield, Slot hinted that the three men could be rotated out of the starting lineup as he looks to manage their fitness.

“I think they are not able to play three 90 minutes in a week, that’s for sure,” the Dutchman said in his pre-match press conference on Tuesday.

“I will have to see how they feel today and if they are ready to start again. All three are able to play in all three games if they don’t get an injury.”

Slot continued: “Florian had missed one or two weeks of training, so for him to already play so many minutes is a good thing.

“It was encouraging to see Florian playing that well, it was not the first time he has played well for us. And also Alex as well.

“He [Isak] told me yesterday he felt a bit of cramp coming up already, so we will see how he trains today.”

Meanwhile, Liverpool have been boosted by the return of Conor Bradley to training on Monday, while Jeremie Frimpong is expected to follow suit next week. Bradley has missed the last three games with a muscle injury but could feature against Leeds United this weekend.

“Not everything 100 per cent yet, we had to manage that a little bit, so don’t get your hopes up too soon, too fast,” Slot said on Bradley. “But the good thing is that he does certain parts with the group already.

“And we expect the same with Jeremie next week, so the two of them come back but unfortunately we play a lot of games… so Jeremie, if he is training with us next week, he will miss out on three more games, for example. But the two of them are coming back.

“I hope he [Bradley] will be available for Leeds.”
