The Detroit Lions are staring down the barrel of possibly having to navigate their Week 14 contest without No. 1 wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown.
AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementSt. Brown suffered an ankle injury in the Week 13 loss to the Green Bay Packers on Thanksgiving that forced his early exit from the contest. Thankfully, it's just a low-ankle sprain and nothing more serious.
However, that doesn't mean St. Brown is out of the woods yet when it comes to Week 14. We got a reminder of that on Monday, when St. Brown didn't practice.
Amon-Ra St. Brown injury update
According to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero, St. Brown has a chance to play this week but he also adds that it's possible the Lions could hold the star receiver out with a mini-bye coming after Week 14 to give him more time to get right.
AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisement"Lions wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown's status for Thursday's game against the Cowboys is up in the air because of the ankle injury," Pelissero reported. "It looked really bad at the time, but as I reported the next day, it's a low-ankle sprain.
"There's even a possibility that Amon-Ra St. Brown could be back this week. However, it's going to depend in part on how that ankle is healing, and also the schedule. Lions don't play another game until Dec. 14.
"Possible they could just decide to hold him back, give him an extra 10 days to recover. We'll get his final status on Wednesday," Pelissero concluded.
The Lions play on Thursday this week, but their Week 15 game falls on a Sunday, which is where the mini-bye comes from.

When taking everything into account, St. Brown's chances of playing are 50/50, at best. This is a true toss-up situation.
The good news is, if anyone can overcome this injury to play, it's St. Brown, who is incredibly durable and tough, as we've seen after he has played through injuries before.
The Lions find themselves in a tough spot here.
They can ill-afford to not have St. Brown on the field in Week 14 with the team on the outside looking in when it comes to the playoffs, but playing the star wideout also runs the risk of him making the injury worse.
