The underlying story from the Giants side of things was yet another benching of rookie linebacker Abdul Carter. He was held out of the first quarter of the game due to tardiness, according to Jordan Raanan of ESPN.

"New York Giants first-round pick Abdul Carter was benched for the first quarter of Monday night's 33-15 loss to the New England Patriots because of tardiness," Raanan reports. "It was the second time in three games that the rookie linebacker was disciplined. Giants interim coach Mike Kafka described it as a coach's decision. 'My decision,' he said repeatedly."

Carter was asked about the benching, to which he gave a brief and explicit response.

"Sh*t happens," Carter said via Raanan. "I'm not going to get into details. Sh*t happens."

This is a big problem if a promising rookie who was drafted No. 3 overall is already having these issues that result in getting benched twice in three games. Whomever the next head coach is seemingly has their hands full when it comes to the talented, yet problematic defender.
