One of the greatest games of all time is now officially free to download and play for millions. That's right: Red Dead Redemption is back, and it looks better than ever.

The critically acclaimed 2010 classic with a whopping 95 on Metacritic has been re-released with a slew of brand-new features and visual upgrades. And the best part? It's free for a huge chunk of gamers. Just not everyone, I should stress that upfront.

Red Dead Redemption Is Back And Free To Download

Millions of players are eligible

John Marston hold his revolver and looks to the distance

By all accounts, this newly released version of Red Dead Redemption is the definitive one to play, at least according to Rockstar Games.

"Step into the events immediately following the blockbuster Red Dead Redemption 2, in the critically acclaimed tale of John Marston’s journey to bury his blood-stained past. In its zombie-horror companion, Undead Nightmare, fight to find a cure for the zombie plague that has overrun the frontier. All these new versions feature the complete single-player experiences of both games, and also include bonus content from the Game of the Year Edition."

Red Dead Redemption is available from today (December 2) on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2. Anyone who owns the game on PS4, Nintendo Switch, or the digital backward compatible version on Xbox One can upgrade to the enhanced version for free right now.

Better still, millions more can hop into Red Dead Redemption for free. As of today, the game is available on PlayStation 5 via PlayStation Plus Extra. Netflix users can also access the brand-new mobile version of the game as part of their subscription. Red Dead Redemption on mobile should work across all the latest iOS and Android devices.

There Are Plenty Of Changes

Definitely the best way to play

This latest Red Dead Redemption release is packed with tons of enhancements and changes. Most notably, you can enjoy an improved framerate and enhanced resolution. There's also the addition of the brilliant Undead Nightmare DLC, and the option to carry over game progress.

This might not be the full-fat Red Dead Redemption remake I know a lot of fans have been clamoring for ever since Red Dead Redemption 2 released. Heck, this re-release might have finally put to rest the idea that such a remake will ever come out. Even so, this is a welcome opportunity to revisit one of the very best games of all time. If you're a first-timer coming to Red Dead Redemption, I can't stress how much I invent.
