From the New York Giants' vantage, Monday night's prime-time implosion against the surging New England Patriots wasn't just a loss -- it was a funeral dirge for a once-proud franchise now wallowing at 2-11.

Jaxson Dart's lone 30-yard strike to Darius Slayton in the second quarter offered a flicker of fight, but it couldn't mask the carnage: a 94-yard punt return touchdown surrendered early, Drake Maye's surgical two-touchdown night, and four Blake Borregales field goals burying Big Blue under 33 points.

With Abdul Carter sidelined by "coach's decision" and a laundry list of inactives hobbling the roster, this poverty-row performance screamed dysfunction. Ownership's halfway measures and front-office paralysis have turned MetLife miracles into Foxborough massacres.

At 0-8 on the road, the Giants aren't rebuilding -- they're rubble. Fans deserve better than this embarrassing surrender.

Keys to the Game

  • Dying defense: The Giants allowed 6.3 yards per play on Monday night, including 8.1 yards per pass.

  • Lost time of possession/turnover battle: The Giants were -1 in turnover ratio against the Patriots, and couldn't stay on the field, losing the time of possession battle, 33:26 to 26:34.

  • 3rd/4th down efficiency: The Giants were 4-for-11 on third down and 0-for-3 on fourth down. By comparison, New England converted on six of their 13 third-down attempts and went 1-for-1 on fourth down.

It was over when...

Patriots wide receiver Kayshon Boutte hauled in a three-yard touchdown off the arm of quarterback Drake Maye, capping a five-play, 61-yard drive. It gave New England a 17-0 lead and displayed just how dominant they were compared to the floundering Giants.

Players of the Game

  • RB Devin Singletary: On a night when little went right, the veteran running back offered a slim silver lining. He turned back the clock for 156 total yards and one touchdown. He made plays on the ground, through the air, and on special teams.

  • WR Darius Slayton: Slayton caught two of his three targets for 41 yards, including a nice catch and weaving run for a 30-yard score. He also hauled in a two-point conversion in the fourth quarter.

  • LB Zaire Barnes: It was a big night for Barnes, who recorded a team-leading 13 tackles (eight solo, one for a loss) to go along with one QB hit and one sack.

Injuries

Wide receiver Gunner Olszewski suffered a concussion and was quickly ruled out of the game. The only other notable injury was running back Tyrone Tracy Jr., who hurt his hip and was given a questionable designation to return.

What's next?

Giants general manager Joe Schoen will conduct his bye week press conference at 1:45 p.m. EST on Tuesday afternoon, following press conferences with select players. Big Blue will then head into their much-needed bye week.

New York will return to practice on Wednesday, December 10, ahead of a Week 15 game against the Washington Commanders at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey. Kickoff is scheduled for 4:25 p.m. EST.
