EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WEHT) — After dropping their first four games of the season, the University of Evansville women’s basketball team has won two of their last three games.
UE women have shown glimpses of playing to the standard head coach Robyn Scherr expects them to play. The Purple Aces have played well at home where they’re (2-0) in the confines of Meeks Family Fieldhouse. They beat IU Indy there, a team who beat Evansville by 25 points last year. Last Sunday they knocked off Northern Illinois with a second half comeback.

“We’re just close,” said Coach Scherr. “We’re really close to kind of turning that corner and putting together a complete game. We’ve got some players who can really score the ball and you know we’re young, so we’re just going to keep growing. You know I’m confident that we’re just going to keep getting better and better week to week right now.”
Despite wins being harder to come by, the players have brought in to team and their coaches’ messages. They even accept the fact that in most games they won’t be favorited to win. The Purple Aces players accept the challenge and look forward to surprises teams once they put it all together.
Sophomore guard, Camryn Runner said, “Being a rebuilding program and a young team like this, we’re definitely finding that groove as we go. We just again have to come in with confidence because we’re going to be the underdogs in a lot of these games. And that’s ok! Like I’d rather have that than have all the pressure in the world.”
