However, his truest love lies in the presence of historical epics and thrillers. Lured by the brilliance of Middle Earth from an early age both in print and on screen, his palate has since expanded to other realms including Westeros, Kattegat among others. He also possesses a great appetite for the stories that emanate from the vastness of space. Even though he is no Avenger. Obsessed with storytelling and having works of his own that have yet to make it to print, he is content to use that ability to communicate to as many as are reachable. In his spare time, he looks out for avenues where he can aid people aside from his plans to reign over this earthly realm. Yes…you heard that first here. Among the major streaming platforms, Apple TV has built a reputation for exclusivity, offering only its original film and television lineup, leaving no room for incorporating titles from external sources. However, it appears the streamer is welcoming some flexibility as it’s making a rare exception for one of its most loved series. Ahead of its highly anticipated Season 2 return, Apple TV has made the Idris Elba-led thriller Hijack available to stream on another platform, though not without a catch.

Hijack premiered on Apple TV (formerly Apple TV+) in June 2023 and quickly became a breakout hit for the service. The thriller stars Elba as Sam Nelson, a corporate negotiator whose negotiation skills come in handy when his long-haul flight is seized by terrorists midair. The series debuted to strong viewership, becoming only the second Apple TV original to appear on the Nielsen streaming rankings, with 357 million viewing minutes by the time its Season 1 finale aired. The series has remained one of the platform’s most-watched titles long after its debut season concluded, frequently reappearing on the service’s top-ranking lists in the U.S. and internationally.

In a bid to draw even more viewers ahead of Season 2, Apple has taken the unusual step of making Hijack available on Prime Video, though with limitations. Only the first episode of Season 1 has been added, and it is currently accessible only to subscribers in the U.K. While the move may seem out of character for Apple, the strategy is well established across the streaming landscape. AMC titles, for instance, have routinely landed on Netflix to build momentum ahead of new seasons, often boosting viewership and funneling audiences back to the show’s original platform. The approach has proven particularly successful for series such as Dark Winds and several titles within The Walking Dead universe.

What To Expect From 'Hijack' Season 2

Idris Elba returns as Sam Nelson, whose commute is once again compromised by terrorists. This time, the crisis unfolds on land, with a train serving as the target. Despite the change in setting, the stakes remain just as high, as passengers once again depend on Sam’s sharp instincts and negotiation skills to survive.

Production on Season 2 reportedly wrapped in February, but Apple TV is said to have intentionally held the release to prevent overcrowding its slate with multiple concurrently airing series. The streamer has now secured a strategic launch window, confirming that Hijack Season 2 will premiere on Wednesday, January 14, 2026, exclusively on Apple TV. Check out the Season 2 teaser above.

You can now watch the first episode of Hijack Season 1 on Prime Video and catch up on the rest on Apple TV.
