The 43-year-old Sumrall will be tasked to revive a Florida Gators football program that has endured four losing seasons in its last five years and hasn't won an SEC or National Championship since 2008.
AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementSumrall brings a successful head coaching track record of 42-11 in two seasons at Tulane and two seasons at Troy. He's led both schools to four straight conference title games and will coach Tulane against North Texas in the American Conference championship game on Dec. 5.
A former Kentucky linebacker, Sumrall brings SEC experience as a former linebackers coach at Ole Miss (2018) and Kentucky (2019-20) before starting his head coaching career. Sumrall's win percentage at Troy and Tulane (.792) is the fifth-highest winning percentage among current FBS head coaches behind only Ryan Day (.891, 81-10), Dan Lanning (.868, 46-7), Kirby Smart (.853, 116-20) and Curt Cignetti (.792, 141-37).
