The Minnesota Vikings surprised everyone when they announced J.J. McCarthy was dealing with concussion-like symptoms following their loss to the Green Bay Packers. With backup Carson Wentz out for the year, this put undrafted rookie Max Brosmer in line for his first career start, and it turned out to be a start that will live in bad quarterback infamy.

While the Vikings were knocking on the door for a touchdown inside the red zone, Brosmer ran backwards several yards to avoid a sack and threw up a side-armed flailing duck of a throw into the air while being dragged to the ground that was picked off by Seahawks linebacker Ernest Jones and taken 84 yards to the end zone.
It goes without saying that Brosmer can't see the field again for the Vikings. Even if McCarthy can't go for whatever reason, find another guy to come in. We saw Kevin O'Connell win games with Josh Dobbs after trading for him in 2023 - almost anyone would be a better choice to line up under center at this point. C.J. Beathard is on the Detroit Lions practice squad. He isn't great by any means, but he's won games as a starter and will look like Steve Young compared to what Brosmer put on display on Sunday.
This is a lost season for Minnesota, so in the grand scheme of things, is it the worst thing in the world if Brosmer starts another game? Organizationally, no. Better draft position at this point is better than getting to seven or eight wins and drafting in the middle of the first round. However, you'd risk losing guys in the locker room if you trot out a guy they know they can't win with. A move needs to be made, and Brosmer can't be under center again for the Vikings.
